Signer Preparation

1. Know the Type of Notarization Needed

  - Determine whether you need an acknowledgment, jurat, or another type of notarization 


2. Review the Document

  - Make sure your document is filled out completely but not signed yet (sign it in the notary’s presence).


3. Bring Proper Identification

  - Have a valid government-issued photo ID ready, such as a driver’s license or passport.


4. Check Name Consistency

  - Ensure the name on your ID matches the name on the document.


5. Prepare Any Additional Signers

  - If other signatures are required, ensure all signers are present with their IDs.


6. Understand the Fees

  - Be aware of the notary fees and have the payment ready.

Steps of Notarization

1. Personal Appearance Required

  - The signer must appear in person before the notary.


2. Complete the Document

  - Ensure your document is fully completed and contains no blank spaces.


3. Acceptable Identification

  - Bring a valid, government-issued photo ID. The name on the ID must match the name on the document 


4. Identity Verification

  - The notary will verify your identity by checking your ID and may ask some questions to confirm your identity


5. Document Review

  - The notary will review the document to ensure it is complete and determine the type of notarization needed 


6. Sign the Document

  - Sign the document in the presence of the notary. Some documents may require multiple signatures.


7. Notary Journal Entry

  - The notary will record the transaction in their journal, noting the date, type of notarization, and other details 


8. Notarial Certificate and Seal

  - The notary will complete the notarial certificate and apply their official seal to the document.
